The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960
This Act provides for the prevention and protection of animal from cruelty, unnecessary pain, overwork, torture and abuse. It authorizes the inspection of all the premises where animals work, eat, rest, perform or are slaughtered in order to avoid any cruelty or abuse.
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules, 2016
It prohibits the breeding of dogs without registration at the State Animal Welfare Board. It also lists the requirements to be met by breeding establishments, conditions of sale of the animals and activities report.
Transport of Animals Rules, 1978
This rule extensively lays out the required conditions for transporting dogs, cats, monkeys, cattles, equines, sheep and goats for long and short distances via road, air, inland, waterway or sea.
Enacted for the protection of wild animals and plants. The Act covers protection of specified plants, hunting of wild animals, protected sanctuaries and zoos, endangered species protection and trade and commerce of wild animals articles and trophies. In ChV.39, it states that wild animals (bred, hunted or kept in captivity), their meat and articles are the property of the Government of India.
No person shall, without authorization,.
(a) acquire or keep in his possession, custody, or control, or
(b) transfer to any person, whether by way of gift, sale or otherwise, or
(c) destroy or damage
such Government property.
